Nestled along the Gulf of Mexico, in the Panhandle of Florida, lies "The Jewel of the Emerald Coast" Fort Walton Beach. The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce represents Cinco Bayou, Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field, Mary Esther, Okaloosa County, Okaloosa Island and Shalimar.
Formerly known as the Playground Area - we continue to be a premier vacation destination offering the world's most beautiful beaches with 5,864 accommodation choices along Okaloosa Island, deep sea fishing, shopping on the Miracle Strip in the historic downtown district, dolphin attractions, boating, museums, Native American history, water sports and hundreds of other family-friendly activities.
The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts some of the area's most popular Festivals, Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival, Mardi Gras, Musical Echoes, Dog Daze and the H C White Golf Tournament.
The Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce is a proud supporter of our Military Forces and our area is now the home to the U S Army 7th Special Forces and the USAF 33rd Fighter Wing F35 Joint Strike Fighters. Eglin Air Force Base, originally established in 1935 as the Valparaiso Bombing and Gunnery Base, is the largest Air Force Base in the Nation. Hurlburt Field is home to Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) and the 1st Special Operations Wing (1 SOW). Duke Field, also known as Eglin AFB Auxiliary Field #3 and was used as a training base by the Doolittle Raiders in 1942. Coast Guard Station Destin is located on Choctawhatchee Bay at the east end of Okaloosa Island and provides Search and Rescue, supports Boat Safety, Fisheries, Marine Environmental Protection and the Intracoastal Waterway. Located outside the Eglin West Gate is the Air Armament Museum - a popular tourist stop; where you can experience the aviation warfare armament from the early days of World War I right through to today's high tech planes and bombs. Inside, you'll find an extensive collection of weaponry and interactive displays that will amaze and intrigue. Outside displays include vintage military aircraft including the fastest plane ever built - the SR-71 Blackbird!
